Lowering U.S. and NC Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Dolores Huerta

Governor Josh Stein ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff from sunrise Thursday, October 29 until sunset Monday, November 2, in honor of labor activist and civil rights icon Dolores Huerta, who died earlier today at her home in Bakersfield, California. The 96-year old civil rights activist spent decades championing equal rights for women, immigrants, and workers. She is widely remembered for cofounding the United Farm Workers of America in the mid-1960s.

Statement from Governor Stein
"Dolores Huerta made America a better place for workers and women, moving our nation forward. Let us honor her legacy by continuing to extend the promise of this nation to all who call it home. May her memory be a blessing."

Statement from Secretary Esparza
“Dolores Huerta was a staunch advocate for the Latino community. She inspired a movement and so many generations of young people to make a difference in their communities. Her example influenced my own leadership journey, and the legacy of her impact on our nation will continue.”
