Trump Denies US Role in Deadly Iranian School Strike
His statements conflict with reports by multiple news organizations, which, drawing on satellite imagery and other visual evidence, concluded that the US likely hit a girls’ elementary school in Minab on February 28 while targeting nearby Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps positions.
When questioned on Saturday about American responsibility for the school strike, Trump stated: “In my opinion, based on what I’ve seen, that was done by Iran.”
A journalist then asked US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth: “Is that true … it was Iran that did that?” Hegseth replied, “We’re investigating it,” and added, “the only side that targets civilians is Iran.” Trump interjected, “We think it was done by Iran, because they’re very inaccurate, as you know, with their munitions. They have no accuracy whatsoever.”
Earlier in the week, reports cited US officials saying that military investigators suspect American forces could have been responsible for the strike, though the inquiry remains ongoing and no definitive conclusions have yet been issued.
The Minab attack represents the deadliest single incident in the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran launched on February 28. The United Nations has strongly condemned the assault, calling it “a grave assault on children, on education, and on the future of an entire community” and emphasizing that “civilians must never be treated as collateral.”
