Pakistan’s Deployment of Troops to Gaza Remains In Process
(MENAFN) A ruling concerning the potential dispatch of Pakistani forces to Gaza as part of an international peacekeeping contingent established through a US-mediated settlement is still “in process” and remains undecided, stated Defense Minister Khawaja Asif on Tuesday.
“This thing has to be finalized, (and) it is in process. The government will take a decision after passing through the process, and I don’t want to preempt it,” Asif told a news agency.
He further explained that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s administration intends to consult parliament and all relevant institutions to ensure collective agreement before reaching a conclusion on the matter.
As part of US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive 20-point framework aimed at resolving the Gaza conflict, a phased truce between Hamas and Israel—mediated through both regional and international channels—was implemented on October 10.
The first phase of the plan involves exchanging Israeli hostages for Palestinian detainees and a partial withdrawal of Israeli troops.
It also includes reconstruction efforts in Gaza and the creation of a new administrative setup excluding Hamas, along with the deployment of a temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF).
Although final arrangements have yet to be determined, both Indonesia and Malaysia have committed to contributing peacekeeping personnel to the mission in Gaza.
