Lavrov Highlights “Visible Progress” in Russia-US Ties
Addressing the 3rd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security in Belarus’ capital, Lavrov remarked that "progress in these relations is visible, but so far mainly in the fact that dialogue has resumed."
He emphasized that communication between the two nations has restarted, though substantial results are still anticipated.
On the topic of a Russia-US presidential meeting, Lavrov highlighted Moscow’s insistence on assurances that the discussion would generate concrete outcomes. “We also need guarantees that the meeting of presidents will bring specific results. We are prepared for this result,” he said.
A planned summit between President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Budapest this month was cancelled.
Their last encounter took place in Alaska in August.
Lavrov also expressed optimism that the United States might adjust its stance toward a peaceful solution in the Ukraine conflict.
He pointed out that Trump "wants sustainable peace" and does not endorse "pouring weapons and money into Ukraine," suggesting that this attitude could favorably influence conflict resolution.
“I hope that after all, the logic adopted by the US, the logic of establishing lasting peace, will prevail,” Lavrov added, signaling Russia’s desire for constructive engagement in international diplomacy.
