MERIDIAN’S ARCHER 1200 BARRIERS SUCCESSFULLY STOP .50 CALIBER ROUNDS IN RIGOROUS BALLISTIC TESTING
Police and Public Can Find Protection Behind Barrier in Firefight
BELCAMP, MD, UNITED STATES, October 10, 2025 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Meridian Rapid Defense Group today announced the successful completion of an advanced ballistic test for its Archer 1200 mobile barriers, demonstrating the barriers' ability to stop high-powered, military-grade projectiles, including .50-caliber rounds.
The U.S.-made, ballistic-rated steel of the Archer 1200 successfully withstood impacts from both .30 caliber and .50 caliber rounds in every instance, including a .30 caliber armor-piercing round designed to penetrate body armor and light vehicle armor.
"We are testing a range of bullets that will ensure that whatever happens out in the field, if there is a shooter, people can get down behind our barriers and be safe at any point in time," said Meridian CEO Peter Whitford, who observed the test firings.
The Archer 1200, already a recognized gold standard for mobile hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM), is designed to protect large crowds and high-profile locations at events ranging from parades and concerts to sporting events. While engineered primarily for vehicle threats, this ballistic testing validates a significant secondary life-safety benefit for active threat scenarios.
The results of the ballistic testing offer a new level of reassurance to law enforcement officers and public safety personnel, who can rely on the Archer 1200 for cover against high-powered weaponry far exceeding typical handguns and even high-powered rifles. This capability is critical in high-threat scenarios, such as the New Orleans New Year’s Day attack, where ballistic-rated barriers could have provided police with life-saving protection during the shootout with the assailant.
"Testing is part of our DNA," Mr. Whitford added. "Whether it's crash testing our barriers and gates with vehicles or anything that we're doing with .50 caliber rounds as we are seeing here today. Without the standards and certifications necessary to deliver on public safety, we wouldn't be able to keep people, communities, and places safer. So today is just another example of what we do here at Meridian."
The Meridian Archer 1200 Barriers are "SAFETY Act Certified" by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), meeting the highest standard for keeping people, communities, and places safer.
"Following these latest tests here at Element, we are pleased to reinforce the knowledge that if someone is under fire from an active assailant, you can get behind an Archer barrier and know that you are safe," concluded Mr. Whitford.
