Musk reveals plan to break apart two-party US system

(MENAFN) Elon Musk has revealed that his new political venture, the “America Party,” will focus on breaking the stronghold of the two major parties in Congress. He aims to challenge both Republicans and Democrats in the 2026 midterm elections by presenting an alternative to what he calls the “Republican/Democrat Uniparty,” criticizing both for poor financial management and limiting voter options.

Musk, who announced over the weekend that he is moving forward with the party’s creation, emphasized on X that the initial goal is to concentrate on winning seats in the House and Senate during the upcoming midterms, where 33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats will be contested.

He described his strategy as a concentrated effort inspired by the ancient general Epaminondas, aiming to decisively overcome the entrenched two-party system.

Musk also reiterated his disapproval of President Donald Trump’s fiscal policies, questioning the effectiveness of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which Trump had appointed Musk to lead. He criticized the significant increase in the national debt despite DOGE’s mission.

Earlier, Trump responded by calling Musk a “train wreck,” accusing him of erratic behavior and warning that third parties historically fail in the US political system. Trump expressed disappointment in Musk’s recent actions, especially his plan to form a new political party.

Musk had supported Trump during his recent White House campaign but resigned from DOGE last month following disagreements over the “Big Beautiful Bill,” a major tax and spending package signed into law on July 4 that raised the federal debt ceiling and included trillions in new spending along with cuts to social programs.
