Trump Says He Aims for Iran’s Nuclear Ambitions End
Speaking with journalists aboard Air Force One after wrapping up the G7 summit in Canada, Trump rejected any notion of advocating for a ceasefire in the intensifying conflict between Iran and Israel.
"I didn't say I was looking for a ceasefire," he stated, according to a reporter, who shared the remarks on X. Trump reiterated that his priority is pressuring Iran to fully relinquish its nuclear capabilities, saying he’s pursuing “a real end” that means Iran “giving up entirely” on nuclear weapons.
Turning to Israel's military operations, Trump remarked: "The Israelis aren't slowing up their barrage on Iran. You're going to find out over the next two days. You're going to find out. Nobody's slowed up so far."
On the topic of U.S. forces potentially being targeted amid the regional unrest, Trump delivered a stark warning: Iran knows not to touch US troops, cautioning that any aggression would prompt a severe response. “We'd come down so hard if they do anything to our people,” he said.
When asked whether he would dispatch representatives—such as real estate executive Steven Witkoff or Vice President JD Vance—for diplomatic talks with Iran, Trump left the door open. “I may,” he said, noting that his choice “depends what happens when I get back.”
In response to questions about potential civilian evacuations from Tehran, Trump underscored the importance of safety, saying he wants “people to be safe.”
Pressed on whether military strategies had been presented by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff or the Secretary of Defense in case Iran targets U.S. installations, Trump refused to elaborate. “I can't tell you that,” he said.
