Trump Seeks “Real End” to Iran’s Nuclear Program
He added that he would be closely observing the escalating tensions in the Middle East from the White House later in the day.
While addressing reporters aboard Air Force One following his return from a G7 summit in Canada, Trump dismissed any intention of initiating a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.
He clarified, "I didn't say I was looking for a ceasefire," according to a news agency’s journalist, who shared his remarks on X.
Trump emphasized that his priority is for Iran to completely abandon its nuclear objectives.
Reiterating his position, Trump stated that what he wants is "a real end," which entails Iran "giving up entirely" on its nuclear weapons pursuits.
Commenting on Israel’s ongoing military campaign, Trump noted, "The Israelis aren't slowing up their barrage on Iran. You're going to find out over the next two days. You're going to find out. Nobody's slowed up so far," underlining the intensifying situation.
When questioned about any threats to American forces, Trump issued a stern warning to Tehran.
He insisted that Iran is fully aware not to engage with US personnel, cautioning that the United States would "come down so hard if they do anything to our people."
Regarding diplomatic outreach, Trump was vague when asked whether he might send representatives like Steven Witkoff or Vice President JD Vance for talks with Iranian counterparts.
He responded, "I may," explaining that the decision "depends what happens when I get back."
