Analyst Questions Trump’s Claim That US Could Destroy Iran in One Night
US President Donald Trump said on Monday that American forces could "take out" the entire nation of Iran in just a single night.
"The entire country could be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night," Trump told reporters.
However, analysis cited in reports indicates that the US ability to “take out” all of Iran in one night is “doubtful at best.”
A military expert estimates that within a 24-hour period, US and Israeli forces could strike hundreds of targets such as power plants and bridges across Iran, but not completely destroy the country’s infrastructure.
The assessment outlines that a limited number of stealth bombers and fighter jets could deliver hundreds of precision-guided munitions in coordinated operations. Even so, the total number of strikes would likely fall short of causing full-scale destruction.
“They would inflict some (stress some) damage on each target, but unlikely to drop medium to large bridges (depends on many factors). Power plants are generally huge targets, so need very careful planning for one hit to make significant damage. They are also “hardened”; lots of reinforced concrete as part of their basic structure,” he said.
